President Bola Tinubu has pledged increased funding for the health sector in the proposed 2024 budget, emphasizing this commitment during the launch of the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and Health Renewal Compact in Abuja on Tuesday, coinciding with Universal Health Coverage Day on December 12.
Tinubu highlighted the importance of quality healthcare in delivering on his promise of renewed hope for Nigerians, expressing gratitude for support from multilateral partners and agencies.
He declared health as a top priority and reaffirmed the commitment to Health for All: Time for Action.
The President outlined plans to enhance primary healthcare by upgrading infrastructure, equipment, and training for frontline healthcare workers.
Additionally, he revealed intentions to redesign the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to improve access to essential healthcare services, addressing the issue of high healthcare costs in line with the National Health Act.
