A devastating incident occurred at the Ndorama Pipeline in Obitti Rubber Estate, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government of Imo State, where a tanker exploded.
According to reports, the tanker was utilized by illegal oil bunkerers to siphon oil from the pipeline.
An eyewitness recounted that the pipeline, known as the Ndorama Pipeline, was the site of the tragedy.
The eyewitness described how the bunkerers arrived with a tanker, excavated the ground to locate the pipeline, and then proceeded to siphon oil into the tanker parked in the bush.
Tragically, the tanker exploded, resulting in numerous fatalities. Some victims were reduced to ashes, while others are still burning, along with the tanker itself.
Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that security personnel have been dispatched to the scene.
Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the explosion and apprehend those responsible. However, he did not disclose the exact number of casualties pending further investigation.
