Survivors of the inadvertent bombing in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, revealed they were mistakenly targeted twice by the Nigerian Army.
The death toll has now risen to 120, confirmed by officials from Amnesty International who visited the affected communities.
The air strike, initially aimed at flushing out terrorists, occurred on Sunday night, accidentally hitting civilians during a religious celebration in Tudun Biri.
While the Army claimed responsibility, the National Emergency Management Agency reported 85 casualties on Monday night, with 66 victims sustaining injuries.
The accidental bombing on Tuesday sparked condemnation from the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Jama’tu Nasril Islam. President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed condolences for the victims.
Survivors shared their harrowing experiences as the nation mourned. Saudatu Alamagani, a 45-year-old survivor, recounted the community being bombed twice during the Maulud celebration.
Mistaken for bandits initially, worshippers were caught in the attack around 10pm, prompting chaos and loss of lives. Alamagani described the desperate attempt to seek medical help for the injured, only to face another round of bombing by the military.
