In Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, a devastating accident unfolded in front of the WOCDIF event center on Tuesday afternoon, involving a commercial bus and a tricycle.
The collision resulted in the loss of three school children and the tricycle driver while leaving four others critically injured.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that the accident occurred around 10:30 am, involving a blue Mazda commercial bus (plate number ES 300) and a tricycle (plate number RLG 898 QE).
Emergency services swiftly transported all passengers to the hospital, where unfortunately, three of the four deceased passengers succumbed to their injuries.
Among the eight individuals involved were four adult males, two male children, and two female children.
Miraculously, only one person survived the harrowing crash. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by excessive speeding, leading to a tire burst and subsequent loss of control by the commercial bus driver.
The deceased were conveyed to the Osun State Teaching Hospital with the assistance of ambulance services and medical rescue teams, while the vehicles involved were taken to the Dugbe Police Station.
The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws and driving cautiously to prevent such tragic loss of life on Nigerian roads.
