Two Arrested In Bayelsa Communal Clash, Police Confirm.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the killing of two men during Monday’s violent clash between the Opolo and Okutukutu communities in the Yenagoa Local Government Area.

According to ASP Musa Mohammed, spokesperson for the command, disclosed in a statement titled Okutukutu/Opolo crisis, received on Tuesday, Chief Ekezie Gabriel reported two lifeless bodies found in Opolo, allegedly murdered by Okutukutu youths.

Upon receiving the report, ten patrol teams were dispatched with a drone to monitor the situation.

Despite the hoodlums’ attack on the drone operators, law and order were restored, and two suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation.

Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Idu, urged calm and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities. The clash resulted in chaos, road blockages, and unconfirmed casualties.

The Bayelsa State Government strongly condemned the violence and urged communities to refrain from further escalation.

Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo called for peace talks and assured justice for the victims’ families.
