The Gombe State Police Command has reported the apprehension of two suspects, Bashir Haruna and Mohammed Isah, for their involvement in the adulteration of foodstuffs, particularly rice.
According to ASP Sharif Sa’ad, the Deputy Public Relations Officer, the suspects engaged in a criminal conspiracy to mix chaff with rice and sell it as unadulterated rice to unsuspecting consumers.
Acting on credible information, law enforcement intercepted the suspects transporting 57 bags of the tainted mixture.
During interrogation, Bashir Haruna and Mohammed Isah confessed to their scheme of adulterating rice with chaff and distributing it to the public.
Under the leadership of CP Hayatu Usman, the Gombe State Police Command has pressed charges against the suspects and transferred them to court.
In response to this incident, Commissioner of Police Usman urged the public to be cautious and vigilant when purchasing grains in bulk to avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent activities.
