Two Lives Lost In Boat Accident In Lagos, Four Rescued.

In a heartbreaking incident in Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, two passengers, Misturat Okunbanjo and Azeezat Amoo, lost their lives in a boat accident on a fateful Thursday evening.

Four other individuals were fortunate to be rescued during this tragic event, which occurred around 8 pm.

The Lagos State Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola, reported this unfortunate incident on the following Friday. She revealed that the ill-fated boat was en route from Olorunsogo to Isawo when it capsized.

She stated, The accident was reported at 20:16 hours on Thursday, prompting the deployment of the Search and Rescue Crew from the agency.

The crew worked in collaboration with local residents familiar with the area, persevering through the darkness until late at night when the search was temporarily suspended. Four out of the six individuals aboard the capsized boat, traveling from Olorunsogo to Isawo, were successfully rescued.

The search and rescue efforts resumed in the early hours of Friday, leading to the recovery of the bodies of two young females, identified as 18-year-old Misturat Okunbanjo and 16-year-old Azeezat Amoo.

The recovery operation was concluded at approximately 10:10 hours, marking a somber end to this tragic incident.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the agency, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and emphasized the importance of avoiding unsafe practices around waterways.

She highlighted ongoing efforts to educate and sensitize communities on measures to prevent such devastating incidents.
