Two decades ago, two Nigerian businessmen, Taju Shoaga and Segun Leopard, suffered severe injuries when they were shot by Togolese marine soldiers. Seeking the intervention of President Bola Tinubu is a critical step in their pursuit of justice.

The incident took place on September 8, 2000, when Shoaga and Leopard were in Lomé, Togo, to purchase vehicles for resale in Nigeria, a venture they were experienced in.

At around 8:00 am, they were urged to expedite the clearance of their newly acquired vehicle to prevent theft by car component thieves.

While occupied with this task, plainclothes soldiers approached them and ordered them to lie down. Gunshots suddenly rang out, causing injuries to their legs.

One of the naval commanders at the scene was furious and demanded to know why the soldiers had opened fire.

Despite their injuries, the businessmen received no medical attention during their four-hour wait at Tokoin Hospital.
