The Uganda High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Nelson Ocheger, commended the Nigerian Golf and Tour Group for their recent golfing expedition in Uganda.
This praise occurred during the prize presentation at the conclusion of their two-day golf tournament, spanning from the Serena Golf Course to the historic Ugandan Golf Club in Kampala, founded in 1908.
Emphasizing the importance of African collaboration for continental integration, Ambassador Ocheger urged Nigerians and Ugandans to explore investment opportunities in each other’s countries, highlighting the positive impact on collective socio-economic prosperity.
Group leader Air Vice Marshal Clement Aroriode (Rtd) expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government, golfing community, and the Ugandan Golfing Union for their warm reception.
He lauded the Ugandan golfing community’s hospitality, recounting the exciting experiences at three distinct courses, including the historic Ugandan Golf Club in Kampala (established in 1908), Serena Golf & Country Resort, and the East African sub-region’s oldest, the Entebbe Golf Course, established in 1901.
During the prize presentation, Dr. Ademola Makinde emerged as the overall champion, receiving accolades alongside other members. The group also participated in the Stanbic Entebbe Open, with Maj Gen Godwin Umelo (Rtd) winning the Category C event.
Founded in 2021, the Golf and Tour Group Nigeria aims to foster golfing unity and advance the game in Nigeria. Beyond golf, the group engages in humanitarian activities, supporting orphanages in host communities during their tours.
Dignitaries present included Moses Matsiko, President of the Uganda Golf Union, Anthony Agaba, Honorary Secretary of the Uganda Golf Union, Anne Abeja, Immediate Past President of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union, Emmanuel Wamala, Captain of the Uganda Golf Club Kampala, and Jovia N. Tugume, Lady Captain of the Entebbe Golf Club.
The Group’s international coordinator, Maj Gen Adamu Jidda (Rtd), received special commendation for ensuring the success of the maiden international tour held between October 29th and November 5th, leaving the members with cherished memories of Uganda.
