Chief Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, has successfully resolved the longstanding water scarcity issue in Enugu.
The commissioning of a groundbreaking water scheme at 9th Mile, boasting a capacity of 70 million litres per day, and the revitalization of the Oji River Water Scheme have elevated the state’s water production capacity to an impressive 120 million litres per day.
These initiatives, realized within Chief Peter Mbah’s promised timeframe of 180 days in office, mark a significant milestone in fulfilling his commitment to providing water to Enugu residents.
Notably, the water facility’s utilization of a substantial 4.4-megawatt power supply enhances its impact, benefiting both the Enugu metropolis and surrounding areas.
Chief Peter Mbah’s dedication to honoring his campaign promises is commendable, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the installed water infrastructure from vandalism for sustained, long-term access to this vital resource.
Contrary to initial skepticism, the commissioning of the new water scheme within the promised timeframe demonstrates Chief Peter Mbah’s effective leadership.
With a daily capacity of 70 million litres, the facility addresses the water needs of businesses and families.
Additionally, upcoming enhancements to the Oji Water Scheme will contribute an extra 50 million litres daily, resulting in a total delivery of 120 million litres—twice the amount required for Enugu urban.
Chief Peter Mbah’s commitment extends beyond the metropolis, as efforts are underway to extend the pipe network to areas lacking clean drinking water, including newly developed residential zones and towns outside Enugu.
The government is actively addressing water availability uncertainties in rural areas, tailoring solutions for each location.
By focusing on water sufficiency, sanitation, and hygiene, the government aims to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
